Terms

Terms of service.

Acceptance

By using Plinth, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

The service

Plinth is a marketplace for ebooks and related digital content, operated by Athenium. When you buy a book on Plinth, you receive an ongoing licence to read that book in the Plinth reader and to retain a copy of the book and your annotations even if Plinth ceases to operate in its current form. The specifics of that licence sit on top of the publisher's underlying licence terms.

Eligibility

You need to be at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction (18 in Australia) to open an account. You're responsible for everything that happens under your account.

Your account

Your Plinth account is tied to your AthID. Don't share your sign-in credentials. Keep your recovery information current. If you lose access to your AthID, you may lose access to your library — contact us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.

Purchases and payments

Prices on Plinth are shown in local currency where supported and include any applicable platform and network fees. Payment is processed by our payment partners; we don't store your card details.

Refunds

We'll refund a purchase if both of the following are true:

  • You request the refund within 7 days of purchase.
  • You haven't yet opened the book in the Plinth reader. (Opening the cover or sample doesn't count; reading paid content does.)

Major faults — corrupt file, wrong book delivered, or content significantly different from what was advertised — are always refundable regardless of the window above. This reflects your statutory consumer rights, which we honour in full.

Outside those situations we don't offer refunds: buyer's remorse, not liking the book, or buying it twice by mistake after reading are not grounds for a refund.

When a refund is processed, your access to the book is revoked. The on-chain ownership record remains in your wallet as a historical entry but no longer grants reading access.

Request a refund by contacting support@myplinth.app with your order details.

Chargebacks

Disputing a charge through your bank instead of contacting us is considered a breach of these terms unless we've refused a legitimate refund request. We may suspend accounts that initiate unjustified chargebacks.

Content and ownership

You own your reading record, highlights, and notes. Publishers own the underlying works and the copyright in them. Plinth owns the software that runs the service and the brand. Buying a book on Plinth gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to read it — unless we explicitly say otherwise — and to keep a copy of the file we delivered to you.

Acceptable use

Don't do illegal things with Plinth. Don't resell, redistribute, or strip protections from the content you buy. Don't attempt to interfere with the service or gain unauthorised access to other accounts. We may suspend accounts that breach these rules.

Disclaimers

Plinth is provided “as is”. We work hard to keep the service reliable, but we can't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties beyond those required by the Australian Consumer Law (where applicable) and equivalent regimes.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits non-excludable consumer guarantees.

Termination

You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts for breach of these terms, or where we're legally required to. If we terminate, you keep the right to your purchased books and annotations.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of Victoria, unless local consumer law requires otherwise.

Changes

We may update these terms occasionally. We'll update the date at the top, and for substantial changes we'll notify you. Continuing to use Plinth after a change means you accept the new terms.
